Cookie policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files which are downloaded to users’ devices when they visit a website. Cookies are then sent back to the website on each subsequent visit. Third-party cookies are, however, set by a website other than the one the user is currently on. This happens because the website may contain elements (images, maps, audio, links to external websites, etc.) which are stored on servers different from the one hosting the website.

Cookies have various functions, like authenticating users, monitoring sessions, saving preferences, etc.

Types of cookies

The general provision of the Italian Data Protection Authority (GU no. 126 of 3 June 2014) classifies cookies into two types:

  • technical cookies: they are used to allow users to navigate the website or provide the services they have requested. They serve no other purpose and are usually set by the website owner. Without these cookies, some operations could not be completed or would be more complex and/or less secure. Your consent to the use of these cookies is not required;
  • profiling cookies: they are used to create users’ profiles and transmit advertising messages in line with the preferences they expressed while browsing. Your consent to the use of these cookies is required.
